Hobart: 4 Nights
We spend our first 4 nights based in Hobart, a picturesque waterfront city with much of the early settlement of Australia reflected in its architecture and history.
Over the 4 days we tour MONA, drive to Port Arthur, head to the top of Mt Wellington for stunning views and learn how women fared in the penal colony.
We also venture to Bruny Island, crossing the D’Entrecastreaux Channel to enjoy this special place favoured by artists. You also have time to enjoy Salamanca Markets as well as learning more about this charming city.
Hobart - Southport: 3 Nights
From Hobart we venture to the Huon Valley, taking time to explore the bays along the D’entrecatreaux Channel, stopping in Cygnet for lunch. We visit some fruit farms and head further south. Bring your costumes as while here we visit the thermal springs in the south west wilderness area as well as some of the attractions of the Hartz Mountains National Park and take an opportunity to do some smooth sailing.
Southport is the southern most township in Australia and boasted a population of 135 in 2016. We are going rural.
Southport - Strahan: 3 Nights
Today we face a long but fascinating drive through a mix of different landscapes on our journey to the wild west coast and it's worth the effort. Strahan is our base for the next 3 nights, so we get to travel on the Gordon River, one of the greatest wilderness areas in Australia and experience one of the most unique rail journey's in the world, on the West Coast Wilderness Railway. The forest we go through is centuries old and the only word for it is stunning. It's a magical part of Tasmania.
Strahan - Burnie: 1 Night
Today we head north through the magical Tarkine Forest Reserve with huge sand dunes and temperate rainforest. Stopping in Stanley we walk or take the chairlift up the Nut and discover the perfectly preserved colonial buildings that make up the township. We are travel to Burnie for an overnight stop.
Burnie - Cradle Mountain: 2 Nights
Welcome to the World heritage listed Cradle Mountain Park and all of its glorious beauty. You can walk to your hearts content or sit and relax in the comfort of the Cradle Mountain Chateau, either will give you the pleasure that only the experience of remote natural beauty can.
Cradle Mountain - Launceston: 3 Nights
We leave Cradle Mountain and the wilderness to head to Launceston on the Tamar River. Based here for 3 nights we explore the acclaimed Tasmanian north east coast including Binnalong Bay and the famous Bay of Fires. Launceston's natural attractions are extensive so we see as much of them as possible including a visit to the local wineries of the Tamar Valley. We continue to sample Tasmania's local produce which will bring most evenings to a well rounded close.
Launceston - Bicheno: 2 Nights
Leaving Launceston we make our way to the east coast, stopping along the way at Brickendon, one of Tasmania’s heritage properties before arriving at the beautiful Wine Glass Bay on the Freycinet Peninsula. We will be walking up to the Freycinet lookout (short but beautiful views) and then taking to the sea for a guided paddle around one of the most beautiful spots in Tasmania, viewing the sea life and seeing the coast from our special vantage point on the ocean.
Bicheno - Hobart:
Before we head back to Hobart we take time to explore the other side of the Freycinet Peninsula, stop for a final lunch in Tasmania and a farewell before making our way to the airport.
